Reliable, Equitable, and Accessible Charging for Multi-family Housing (REACH)
California Energy Commission (CEC)
What does it fund?
The Reliable, Equitable, and Accessible Charging for Multi-family Housing (REACH) program funds projects to demonstrate replicable and scalable business and technology models for large-scale deployment of electric vehicle charging infrastructure capable of maximizing access and electric vehicle travel for multi-family housing residents.
Projects include charger installations that will benefit and be used by multi-family housing residents within disadvantaged communities, low-income communities, or a combination of both. Projects will also target outreach to multi-family housing residents that will explain benefits and consumer information on electric vehicles and charging. Projects are encouraged to pursue installations for affordable housing.
Who is eligible for funds?
Funding is open to public and private entities in California.
How does this program provide benefits to priority populations?
REACH funds zero-emission vehicle infrastructure projects, enabling the use of clean vehicles which emit less emissions than comparable conventionally fueled vehicles. The project may reduce criteria air pollutant and toxic air contaminant emissions within disadvantaged and low-income communities by funding zero-emission vehicle infrastructure in these communities.
At least 50% of all REACH 3.0 charging ports must be installed in disadvantaged communities and/or low-income communities. Projects are also encouraged to serve residents of affordable housing developments as defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The program provides economic benefits by supporting jobs for manufacturing, installation, maintenance of zero-emission vehicle infrastructure, and by reducing transportation costs relative to conventionally fueled vehicles.
How do I access funds?
Applications are considered for grant funding opportunities through competitive solicitations.
